Truck Repair Tips

by Alexandra Obrien

Truck repairs are a cause for worry for most drivers and truck owners. Nevertheless, this should not be a cause for alarm if you always follow the recommended repair protocols. This guide details the various truck repairs to consider as part of your maintenance protocol.

Logbook Repairs

Logbook repairs commence as soon as you purchase a new truck. Manufacturers offer a warranty on various truck systems. However, they understand that the owner's negligence could cause defects. Therefore, they recommend repair protocols to keep the truck systems under warranty at optimal operating conditions. This way, if the truck develops defects, they can be traced to manufacturing errors. As a rule, you should abide by the log book repair protocol even after the expiration of the vehicle's warranty.

Upgrades

One of the reasons that your truck could break down is that you do not use it for its intended purpose. For instance, you could exceed its hauling and weight limits or take it for off-road trips. The best way to avoid these damages is by upgrading the truck. Do not go for DIY upgrades. Instead, consult your mechanic beforehand. The professional will offer suggestions on upgrading the truck without compromising its functionality. For instance, an engine tune improves the vehicle's torque, allowing you to tow heavier items. Conversely, you could change the suspension and frame if you plan to carry heavier loads.

Preventive Maintenance

Preventive maintenance is an essential truck repair protocol. Ideally, it prevents expensive repairs. For instance, replacing the air filter on time prevents issues such as low power and engine overheating. Conversely, low fluid levels could damage the engine, transmission, or braking systems. You should also replace fuel pumps, filters and injectors to keep the engine healthy. Moreover, keep an eye on your tires and suspension components such as the shocks, tie rods, bushes, and springs.

Long Term Repairs

After a while, you will need to conduct a vehicle overhaul since the original parts have severe wear and tear. However, when do you tell that your truck needs an overhaul? Most manufacturers recommend a specified mileage on the various parts. Therefore, you can use the truck's warranty to know when to conduct major repairs. In other cases, your truck will develop never-ending issues. For instance, regular overheating or inadequate power could indicate that the internal engine components have excessive wear. In this case, you could ask the mechanic to overhaul the engine.
