Understanding the Importance of Auto Service: A Guide for Everyone

Auto service is critical, and without it, you can lose your car or put yourself in danger. Hi, my name is Pete, and after ignoring my brakes for too long, I was in an accident. I made it my goal to learn everything I could about the importance of car service. Regardless of how much or how little you know about cars, I hope that these blogs can help you. I plan to focus on a range of topics related to auto service and possibly some other ideas as well. This is my first blog, and I hope that you enjoy it. When I'm not writing, I work in a coffee shop during the day and part-time for a telemarketing company in the evenings. I enjoy cooking and spending time with my family.

How to Deal with Axle Spindle Issues on Your Truck

by Alexandra Obrien

Mechanical repairs can be rather costly at any time and, typically, can increase for larger vehicles. If you are the owner of a truck or fleet of such vehicles, you may be well aware of this and know that it can be particularly expensive to repair a complete axle if you found a structural issue. In this case, you will want to carry out repairs instead and will need to turn to a specialist to help you. What type of action will you need to take if, for example, you found a problem with an axle spindle?

Dealing With Stress

As you may know, the spindle is the part of the axle that houses the wheel hub and will support a series of bearings. It is typically considered part of the shaft itself but will need to deal with considerable wear and stress linked to the movement of the wheel assembly.

Risk of Failure

In certain circumstances, the spindle can break off entirely, but typically, you can attribute damage to metal fatigue or a badly worn bearing journal.

Complete Replacement

Don't despair if you find extensive spindle damage, however, as a specialist can cut the entire section out of the axle housing and insert a new one. Each new part will come with a particular extension that is inserted into the axle casing and must be welded carefully in place. Once you've done this, it will be equally as strong as the original and will be able to withstand those torsional forces.

Repair in Place

If your damage was not as extensive as that, then a repair specialist can also get you back on the road. They will be able to repair the damaged bearing journal or cut a new thread if needed to fashion an entirely new spindle end. They'll then be able to add new bearings before they replace the hub, brake assembly and wheel.

Taking Action

Don't take this lightly, as spindle failure could be catastrophic if it happens when the vehicle is at speed. The entire wheel and hub assembly could come loose in the worst-case scenario.

When you next take your vehicle in for truck repairs, make sure that the engineer has a close look at the condition of each spindle. If needed, get the work done right away so that you can be confident in both the performance and the safety of the vehicle going forward.
