However, this system will require a certain amount of routine maintenance, and some of the internal components will degrade over time. Pad Deformation
If you find that the vehicle tends to pull sharply to one side when you apply pressure to the brake pedal, then it appears that the brake pad on the opposite side could be ready for replacement. In other words, the pad on the dominant side is still working correctly, while its counterpart is not able to provide any assistance, leading to this end result.
Early Warning System
Your brake pads may also be at fault if you can hear a strange ticking noise when you apply the brakes. Usually, the pad manufacturers will integrate a special device to help give you advance warning of a problem. When the friction material wears down past a predetermined safe level, this will expose the metal device, and it will touch the brake disc to emit this tell-tale noise. Never ignore the sound and just keep on driving as the situation will only get worse. Eventually, the brake pad will lose all of its friction material, and its metal base will come into direct contact with the disc itself.
Discs in Trouble
Sometimes, you may notice a strange feeling through the ball of your foot whenever you press the pedal. This may come and go in a rhythmic fashion whenever the car decelerates and, in this case, the issue could be associated with your brake discs instead. Discs are heavy metal components and can become very hot after a lengthy or complicated journey, and if you happen to drive through an area of standing water when they're like this, they will cool rapidly and may deform.
