Tips to Keep Your Car in Great Condition

by Alexandra Obrien

In terms of automobile maintenance, many people tend to ignore small issues until they pile up and cause permanent damage to the vehicle. There are also auto enthusiasts who enjoy pampering their vehicles every single day, but the hard truth is this: very few people understand the need for regular auto service. Some accidents occur simply as a result of drivers being negligent in taking care of their vehicle's condition. Here are three things to check for when taking a few minutes off your day to assess the condition of the vehicle.

Regularly check the pressure of the tyres

The first step in making sure that you vehicle operates efficiently is to check the pressure of the tyres on a regular basis. It's extremely important that the tyres are not under- or overinflated, as problems can arise in both of these situations. Underinflated tyres cause your vehicle to lose fuel efficiency and you will end up spending more money than necessary on carburant.  Overinflated tyres will cause an uneven tread wear and can even lead to tyre blowout if the tyres get too hot.

Consistently check the fluid levels & service the vehicle on time

This is another important aspect that you should look into to ensure that your vehicle is kept in great working condition over time. Some of the fluids that you should regularly check include the gear oil, the engine oil and the brake oil.

This doesn't mean that you should check the fluid levels every single day, but every other month is a good idea. Also, make sure to take your vehicle for the yearly periodic inspection, as that is where specialized technicians will assess its condition and make sure that the vehicle is safe to drive.

Frequently wash and wax your vehicle

If you want to maintain the vehicle's aesthetic value over the years, washing and waxing it consistently is a great way to do so. Over time, debris and dust can become embedded in the paint of the vehicle, and neither washing nor waxing will get rid of said debris. In this case, your best bet is to visit a car washing service and request the polish service, which will remove dirt layers stuck in the paint job of the car. This will leave you with a better-looking car, but it should not be overdone. Overpolishing your car will greatly thin down the paint and destroy the protective coating. It's best to wash your car regularly to avoid the problem of embedded dirt in the first place.
